![]() ![]() So, I won it back, by contacting the Australian Human Rights Commission with the situation, who agreed it was discrimination, and oferring no guarantees, communicated with the organisation on my behalf. At the time I thought "Oh maybe I should have stayed quiet" but inside I knew that it was unjust, and I was right to be honest, that I didn't need to feel like I was inferior because of something outside of my control. I lost a job, for being honest and listing it in my medical, I was young and had felt it was in the best interests of my own health to do so. I have had times where I was discriminated against for being honest about having depression. If you are or have ever suffered from mental health issues, Depression or Anxiety, there is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. ![]() Help reduce the taboo and stigma surrounding Mental Health so that people feel they can come forward and let the people who matter know what's going on, and seek professional help. The more that is possible, the more lives might be saved to suicide, the more lives might be improved with the relevant support and understanding from family, friends, employers, schools, universities. According to a study in the Medical Journal of Australia "Despite the availability of treatements, 40% of patients with depression or anxiety do not seek treatment, and of those who do, less than half are offered beneficial treatment." (Tiller, 2012). Having been lucky enough to make it through those years, when so many people don't, I feel it is my duty to try to give back so that more people can access as many affordable resources and methods as possible to assist them to improve their quality of life.ġ. ![]()
